Hinckley Park, South Portland

Updated: Feb 19

These dog-friendly trails provide a variety of routes, looping around two ponds fed by Kimball Brook. An outer loop winds through fields and woods, while inner loops hug the ponds' shorelines, passing brooks and mini falls along the way. There are 2.6 miles of trails in network. Due to stairs located throughout these trails, I would not call them accessible, but there are some shorter routes here that would be possible in a wheelchair. Read Enoch Glidden's full report on accessibility here. I should also mention that dogs must be on-leash from 9am-3pm.

There is a paved parking lot for over 15 cars at the trailhead, located at 288 Highland Avenue. From Route 77 in South Portland, take Highland Avenue for .3 miles and the parking/trailhead will be on your left.

We followed the trail clockwise, hugging the inner route closest to the pond. If you choose to go this way, you will arrive at a mini waterfall below a bridge near the second pond.

From here, the loop will bring you past the pond before the trail opens up to a large field. For GPS of this trail network, here is the All Trails link.

I am keeping this post short and sweet, mostly because I'm on vacation, but also for the element of surprise. Fewer details means more personal discovery and a greater adventure. I would never spare the details on a bigger hike, but you really can't get lost here. Hope you enjoy it!
